JOB SUMMARY: Plans, develops, coordinates, monitors, and supervises all Christian Education Programs for a Corps including but not limited to youth programs; builds and maintains a positive relationship with Corps members, children, youth, and their parents; recruits volunteers to serve as teachers/leaders for various programs and serves as a resource to assist them in the same; ensures all programs are in compliance with The Salvation Army mission and ensures the safety of program participants; administers the day-to-day office operations to include preparation of statistics and reports, purchasing of supplies, promotion of programs, and administration of department budget. The incumbents may be requested to perform job-related responsibilities and tasks other than those stated in this position description. Coordinates, directs, and promotes all Sunday morning children and youth activities and Vacation Bible School classes; prepares and maintains records pertaining to children and youth activities on a regular basis for annual reviews; ensures all children and youth classes are covered by the appropriate teaching staff/small group leaders; recruits substitute leaders as needed; orders and distributes supplies to leaders ensuring all leaders have materials needed. Builds and nurtures positive relationships with the youth; serves as a mentor and role model by leading youth by example; shares meals and fellowship time with the youth; provides individual spiritual guidance when needed; remains available and interruptible to youth’s needs and may be required to respond to emergency situations outside of normal hours of work in order to meet the needs of the youth both inside and outside of the Corps environment. Plans, develops, and monitors curriculum content of Sunday morning children and youth activities, such as large group and small group time, giving specific as well as general guidance to each leader. Serves as a constant source of fresh ideas for all program leaders in all matters of classroom procedures including units of study, schedules, educational materials, needed resources, and craft ideas. Maintains awareness of new materials in the area of Christian Education; researches and purchases books or magazines or other materials that might be helpful to the development of the Christian Education Curriculum Library. Works with local leaders, to ensure that plans are made for each scheduled program, that the plans are followed, and that appropriate statistics are kept and recorded. Works alongside parents to disciple children in the Christian faith. Ensures the safety and protection of all children participating in youth programs; contacts the appropriate personnel, parents, or emergency services as needed; reports all accidents to the supervisor; contacts parents with any discipline problems occur with children participating in programs. Consolidates craft and art supply requests from local officers and program leaders; prepares and submits purchase requests for the same. Coordinates transportation arrangements for Corps youth programs, as needed and provides transportation as needed on emergency basis. Plans and coordinates arrangements for youth to attend Divisional events. Plans and coordinates arrangements for Divisional and Territorial Camps including scheduling of youth physicals; completes all paperwork for camps and organizes transportation. Plans, coordinates, and implements fund-raising functions for various groups. Plans, organizes, and leads leaders and parent meetings as needed; coordinates arrangements for training seminars. Prepares and maintains statistical records on all Corps program activities and attendance; compiles and prepares monthly statistical reports; prepares monthly youth reports and submits same to Divisional Headquarters; ensures the accuracy and completeness of the same. Assists in preparing the Christian Education budget; monitors expenditures to ensures compliance to budget limitations. Prepares and maintains accurate records, lists, logs, and reports regarding the Christian Education Programs. Communicates weekly with parents via social media, Corps website and email to encourage parent awareness and participation of family members in the life of the Corps. OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES: Plans and coordinates annual Special events. Performs other related work as required. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Education or a related field, and three years experience developing and leading Christian education programs for large groups or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
