Job Description

Title:                          Next Generation Director

Classification:           Regular Full-Time, Salaried Exempt

Purpose:  The primary purpose of this position is to oversee the operations of Children and Student Ministries (i.e. Birth through High School) as a pastoral, spiritual, and biblical leader and to empower and release staff and lay leaders of the four ministry areas (i.e. early childhood, elementary, Junior High, and Senior High).  The NG Director will be responsible for the alignment of these ministries with the overall mission, vision, values, and strategies of the church.  In addition, the NG Director will have primary responsibility for Senior High Student Ministry.

 

Responsibilities:

Ministry and Operations

Provide organizational, teaching, and spiritual vision and supervision for early childhood, elementary and Junior High School students. And provide direct organizational, teaching, and spiritual leadership for the Senior High School students.  These responsibilities include overseeing related teams of staff and lay volunteers to carry out the goals and programs of these ministries.  Ensure age appropriate, authentic teaching that engages children and students to live and serve like Jesus.  Develop systematic and well-coordinated opportunities to connect children and students in meaningful worship, equipping, and missional environments.  Empower and release staff and volunteer ministry leaders to accomplish the following:

  • Worship Environment
    1. Create age-appropriate worship environments which captivate children and students into relationship with God and lead them into a transforming relationship with Christ.
    2. Encourage and embrace opportunities for children and students to worship with their families as part of the overall body of Christ at MCC.
  • Equipping Environment
    1. Establish age-appropriate equipping opportunities which are essential for missional living (i.e. character, knowledge, and skill).
    2. Creatively engage children and students to participate in equipping opportunities.
    3. Develop and implement, in partnership with Family Life staff, a strategy to equip parents to become the primary disciple makers of their children.
  • Missional Environment
    1. Encourage and engage children and students into missional lifestyles.
    2. Identify and develop ministry specific missional opportunities to teach and engage children and students about missional living.
    3. Partner with like-minded ministries to accomplish missional vision.

Staff Supervision

  • Mentor ministry staff to empower, encourage, and enable their development and growth in their assigned areas of ministry.
  • Supervise, train, and coach direct reports to implement and effectively accomplish the work of the ministry assigned.
  • Develop and effectively communicate performance expectations, develop appropriate accountability processes, conduct performance reviews at least annually, and create professional development plans for each direct report.
  • Work with and assist the Operations staff in areas of personnel management (i.e. hiring process, benefits, compensation, disciplinary situations, etc.).
  • Understand and operate within the policies and processes outlined in the Employee Handbook to ensure consistent application throughout the church.
  • Provide pastoral care to staff.

Lay Leaders, Volunteers, and Parents

  • Build ministry capacity through the recruitment and training of lay leaders and volunteers to ensure the effective implementation of ministry objectives, goals and action plans.
  • Equip, disciple, coach, and supervise ministry lay leaders and volunteers so they may grow like Christ and effectively use their giftedness in God’s church.
  • Develop, communicate and implement performance expectations and appropriate accountability processes for outreach ministry lay leaders to accomplish missional goals.
  • Provide hands-on involvement and equipping opportunities for parents by facilitating parenting events such as seminars, retreats and missional opportunities.

Financial Management

  • Provide input and assist with the creation of operating and capital budgets which are fully integrated with the church’s mission, vision, and strategies.
  • In the spirit of stewardship, manage labor and spending within approved budgeted parameters and monitor spending at least monthly.
  • Understand and operate within church policies and processes regarding all financial transactions of the church.

Other

  • Convey MCC’s Christian message and carry out its mission by exemplifying and promoting biblical values and fostering life-giving relationships with congregants, visitors, vendors and other staff, while serving in this ministry role.  Such actions include offering prayer, encouragement and comfort in both personal and work relationships, leading others toward Christian maturity and as applicable faithfully teaching the Word of God.
  • Give full commitment in word and deed to support the faith tenants and cultural expectations of MCC.
  • Value and develop strong/positive relationships via teams comprised of church staff, ministry partners, families, and lay leadership.
  • Foster high levels of cooperation and effectively work in a team environment(s) with quality relationships and respect of each member’s giftedness and unique abilities.
  • Proactively grow and develop leadership gifts through training opportunities.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Performance Expectations:

  • The worship, equipping, and missional experiences routinely engage children and students to live and serve like Jesus.
  • As a result of experiencing Jesus in their lives, children and students are pursuing missional living in their schools, community and the world.
  • Identify, coach, equip and lead parents and ministerial teams (paid and unpaid) to grow into greater levels of interdependence, knowledge, skills, and effectiveness.

 

Qualifications:

Knowledge and Experience

  • Bachelors or Master's Degree in education, ministry or related field required. Masters of Divinity degree preferred.2)     Knowledge of developmental and faith stages for preschoolers, children and students and the ability to strategically choose and implement appropriate programming for those stages is essential.3)     At least five years experience on a large church (i.e. 500 plus congregants) staff leading in the spiritual formation area of Children, Students and/or Christian education is preferred.
  • Pursues an intimate relationship with Christ with intensity, lives the message he/she teaches, devoted prayer life.
  • Committed to evangelism as evidenced by teaching, lifestyle and support of missions.
  • We prefer the candidate be married with children with demonstrated discipleship within his/her home.
