Job Description

First United Methodist Church of Brownwood, TX is seeking a Full-Time Director of Youth Ministries to lead an active and growing ministry to Middle School and Senior High Youth beginning June 2019.  Applicants should have training in the field of Youth Ministry and experience that shows fruits of this ministry.  It is expected that the applicant have a minimum of a Bachelor Degree and 3 years post-High School experience or training as a youth director.  The Director of Youth Ministries is responsible for directing the overall Christian education and activities ministry of grades seven through twelve to promote evangelism and discipleship by planning, promoting, coordinating, conducting and evaluating the youth activities of the church in a team environment.  Duties include providing a trusting and accepting environment for youth to become committed followers of Jesus Christ, acting as a liaison for the youth program with other church staff, various church committees, and other public and private entities; oversite and management of a $15,900 Youth Budget as well as substantial special offerings for youth ministries that often exceed the stated budget; and development of safe and supportive fellowship programs and spiritual growth opportunities for the youth.

The youth ministry at FUMC Brownwood is a relationship focused small group ministry with consistent attendance at or above 70 on a weekly basis.  The youth are accustomed to "going deep" during the youth sermons and worship gatherings as well as during the small group break-outs.  The Director of Youth Ministries is assisted by a part-time paid Youth Assistant as well as volunteer adults and students from Howard Payne University who assist as Small Group Leaders for High School Youth.  The High School youth serve as SGL's for the Middle School, and both the Middle School and Senior High students serve as leaders for the Children's Ministry.  Faith development through building relationships with one another, leading others, and most importantly growing in relationship with Jesus Christ is the primary focus of this ministry.
